Care & Storage

How to Store Your Fan

All folding fans—regardless of type—are sensitive to moisture.
This includes paper fans made with washi, as well as silk fans with fabric glued onto the ribs, which can loosen or peel if exposed to humidity.

At home, we recommend storing your fan with the seme (paper band) it came with, and placing it in its original paper or wooden box.
If the box is lost, wrap the fan in thin paper to protect the surface.

Carrying Your Fan

When carrying your fan in a bag, it’s best to use a protective fan case.
This not only protects it from moisture but also prevents wear and tear caused by friction.

Repairs & Aftercare

Please be mindful of moisture when using your fan—this applies to all types. When transporting it in a bag, we recommend keeping it in a fan case.
At home, store it in the original box provided at the time of purchase.

The pivot point of the fan, called the kaname, is the most vulnerable part and may become loose over time with frequent use.
For fans purchased from us, we offer free replacement of the kaname. We also accept repair requests for fans from other makers.

  1. If the Pivot Comes Loose or Falls Off

If the kaname (the central pin at the base) becomes loose or falls out, please send the fan in for repair.
We will repair or replace the kaname free of charge for any fans purchased from our store.
For fans purchased elsewhere, we offer this service for ¥1,100 (tax included).

  2. Repairing Broken Ribs or Torn Surfaces

If the ribs break or the paper/fabric tears, some cases may be repairable.
However, depending on the extent of the damage, we may recommend purchasing a new fan.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out for consultation.

  3. Contact & Inquiries

If you have any concerns or questions about your fan, please feel free to contact us.

  4. When the tassels become wrinkled

If the tassel attached to the fan becomes wrinkled, it can be straightened back by boiling water in a kettle or pot and exposing it to the steam.

Common Fan Issues and Solutions

If the Fan Stays Open or Becomes Warped

If a summer fan (not decorative or dance fans) has been left open for too long, it may retain a bend due to humidity.
To restore its shape, tie it closed with soft twine (like PP string) and leave it for 2–3 days. The fan should return to its original form.

If the Tassel Becomes Wrinkled

If the tassel attached to the fan becomes wrinkled, simply expose it to steam from a kettle or hot water pot.
The steam will help straighten the threads.
